Who we are
At Ruta Arqueológica Manabí, we are more than just a tour company – we are passionate storytellers of the rich archaeological and cultural history of the Manabí coast. Our journey began with a love for both archaeology and this beautiful region, shared by founders Carlos Dolz and Dioselin Nayeli.
Carlos, originally from the United States, earned his bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the prestigious Florida International University. His passion for uncovering the past led him to join an archaeology field school hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Salango, Ecuador. During this time, Carlos worked on excavations from Rio Chico and Ayampe to the Cerro Hojas-Jaboncillo archaeological site in Puerto Viejo, exploring the ancient secrets of the Manabí coast.
It was in the Salango Museum where Carlos met Dioselin, a local who had spent her life immersed in the history and traditions of her home. She was born and raised in Salango, making her deeply knowledgeable about the local culture. Carlos, captivated by her beauty, knowledge and spirit, asked her out on a date. Their first date was in the Agua Blanca ancestral community, where they explored the museum, climbed to the lookout point, and bathed in the sulfur springs – all while Carlos had to sneak away from the museum group to make the romantic day happen!
This shared experience of archaeology, culture, and love inspired them to create Ruta Arqueológica Manabí, a tour company that aims to share the wonders of the region with the world. Combining Carlos' academic background and field experience with Dioselin's lifelong connection to Manabí, they bring a unique and intimate perspective to the archaeological history of this remarkable area.
